Got two friends ready to queue? Counter-Strike 2 has a new mode for your trio. Valve’s Rush Hour update introduces Rush, a fast-paced 3v3 mode where teams fight through a series of arenas to reach and capture the opposing side’s castle.
Announced on September 22, the update gives players a new objective to work towards, alongside gameplay changes that include silent reloads and a revised Premier map-selection system.
In its official Rush Hour announcement, Valve explains that Rush puts teams through randomly selected battle arenas. Players have limited money and time to complete the objective, making both spending and positioning part of the challenge.
To win a round, your team needs to control the tower when the enemy team is eliminated or the timer runs out. Winning the match means pushing through the arenas and capturing the enemy castle.
Rush randomly selects arenas for each match to keep things varied. A friends leaderboard also tracks your wins, giving your group something to compete over.
CS2 now lets you reload silently, but it takes longer
The update also introduces another choice during a tense round: reload normally, or take more time to stay quiet.
According to Valve’s official patch notes, holding the reload key now performs a silent reload. The trade-off is speed, with the quieter option taking longer to finish. Unscoping a sniper weapon no longer produces a sound either.
That creates an interesting decision when enemies are nearby. Reloading quietly could keep an opponent from hearing the reload, but it leaves you vulnerable for longer.
Premier players will also notice a different start to their matches. Teams now pick two maps each, and the game randomly selects one of those four. The order is one pick for the first team, two for the second, then a final pick for the first.
Between a new three-player mode and another decision to make before reloading, there is plenty to try the next time your squad logs in.
