Team Vitality defeated Global Esports 2–1 in their VALORANT Champions 2026 Group B opener on September 26, surviving a late comeback on Summit to leave GE facing an elimination match. Vitality won Abyss 13–10, lost Ascent 9–13 and secured the decider 13–11.
The result interrupted GE’s momentum after their VCT Pacific Stage 2 title, which they secured by beating Nongshim RedForce in the final. Vitality arrived as EMEA’s fourth seed after qualifying through circuit points, making this an early setback for Pacific’s top representative in Shanghai.

Vitality withstand Global Esports' Abyss comeback
Global Esports started Abyss with a 2–0 lead, but Vitality recovered to take eight rounds before halftime. The European side then extended its advantage to 10–4. GE answered with five consecutive rounds to make it 10–9, only for Vitality to finish the map before the comeback could turn into a lead.
PROFEK supplied one of the opening map’s defining moments with a 1v4 clutch. His contribution helped Vitality establish control in a series where GE repeatedly threatened to overturn their advantages.
PatMen powers the response on Ascent
Ascent gave GE an immediate route back into the match. After Vitality won the opening pistol, PatMen overturned the following round with a four-kill performance that included a 1v3 clutch. He produced another four-kill round in the second pistol, helping GE build an 11–6 advantage.
GE had led 7–5 at halftime and eventually closed out their map pick 13–9, forcing the series onto Summit. PatMen finished Ascent with 25 kills, 15 deaths, nine assists and 311 ACS on Omen.
The response gave GE a clean reset: one map stood between the Pacific champions and a winning start in Shanghai.
Chronicle’s Neon helps Vitality settle Summit
Vitality’s deciding-map composition put Chronicle on Neon and Derke on Chamber. Chronicle delivered 26 kills and 18 deaths, giving Vitality a major contribution from an unconventional role assignment.
Neither team separated itself in the first half, which ended 6–6. Vitality won the second-half pistol and converted the following anti-eco and bonus rounds to create breathing room. GE fought back to 12–11, but Vitality claimed the final round of regulation to deny overtime.
Jamppi led the series with 60 kills, 48 deaths and 244 ACS. Derke added 56 kills, while xavi8k topped GE’s kill tally with 54.
Global Esports face EDward Gaming next
Vitality will meet LOUD in the Group B winners’ match on September 30, with a playoff place at stake. Global Esports face EDward Gaming on October 2 after the Chinese side lost its opener to LOUD. The loser of GE versus EDG will exit Champions.
For GE, the next series is now about survival. Their recovery on Ascent and late resistance on Summit kept this opener competitive, but they will need a complete series win to keep their tournament alive.
