Fortnite’s new “Override” season is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog into the game as part of the character’s 35th anniversary celebrations. The season combines Sonic-themed content with classic gaming elements, while also featuring characters from several popular video game franchises.
Sonic Speeds Into Fortnite
Players who purchase the Battle Pass can play as Sonic and unlock Tails as a Sidekick. The collaboration also introduces the Tails Sprite, Rings and Sonic Power Sneakers, with the sneakers allowing players to perform a Spin Dash while battling Dr. Eggman.
The season also features familiar gaming mechanics, including Cheat Codes and 1-Up Tokens, giving “Override” a distinctly retro-inspired feel.
Sonic is joined by several other recognizable gaming characters. The season’s confirmed lineup includes Shadow, Dr. Eggman, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Joker from Persona 5, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Mega Man, Rush, Pac-Man and Tetris.
A Celebration of Gaming
The collaboration marks another milestone in Sonic’s 35th anniversary year. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer at Sega of America, said bringing Sonic and his friends into Fortnite gives generations of fans a new way to experience the characters together.
With characters and elements drawn from different gaming franchises, “Override” puts video game nostalgia at the centre of Fortnite’s latest season, bringing familiar faces and classic mechanics into one gaming experience.
