VALORANT will return to the Esports World Cup (EWC) in 2027, marking its third consecutive appearance at the international esports event. The confirmation comes as Riot Games prepares to introduce major changes to the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT), potentially reshaping how teams compete for opportunities on the global stage.

Although the announcement confirms VALORANT’s place in the tournament, several details remain unknown, including the competition format, prize pool and qualification process. The Esports World Cup 2027 is scheduled to take place during the summer, but exact dates for the VALORANT tournament have not yet been announced.

VALORANT Secures Its Third Consecutive EWC Appearance

VALORANT first joined the Esports World Cup in 2025 and has since become part of the event’s international competitive lineup. Its return in 2027 will give teams another opportunity to compete for the title and contribute to their organisations’ wider Esports World Cup ambitions.

The 2025 edition saw Team Heretics defeat Fnatic in the final to claim the championship. In 2026, 100 Thieves emerged victorious after defeating NRG in the final, taking home $600,000 from the tournament’s $2 million prize pool.

However, organisers have yet to reveal whether the 2027 competition will retain the same format or how much teams will compete for in prize money.

VCT’s Open Model Could Change the Qualification Race

One of the biggest developments heading into 2027 is the VCT’s transition from regional leagues built around partnered teams to a more open competitive ecosystem with more frequent qualifiers.

Under this model, partnership status will no longer guarantee teams places at higher levels of competition. This could create new opportunities for emerging rosters while forcing established organisations to compete more consistently for qualification.

The changes may also influence how esports organisations approach roster signings. Teams outside the VCT partner programme could attract greater attention if they perform well in open qualifiers and demonstrate their potential against established opponents.

Teams Face New Opportunities Ahead of EWC 2027

The changing VCT structure could make the race for EWC qualification more unpredictable. Organisations participating in the Esports World Cup’s Club Partnership Programme may have additional reasons to identify promising teams capable of competing at the highest level.

However, the exact impact will depend on the qualification rules and tournament format that organisers announce for 2027.

With VALORANT confirmed for another year, teams now have a major international competition to prepare for as the competitive ecosystem enters a new phase. The upcoming season could provide established organisations and emerging rosters with different routes towards the same goal: earning a place on the Esports World Cup stage.
